Release Date: March, 2014
The YA Dystopian novel Divergent by Veronica Roth is in pre-production for the movie adaptation with the same name, scheduled to begin filming in April of this year IN CHICAGO. According to Reel Chicago, Claire Simon Casting "is casting local actors," so if you're an actor in Chicago, go be in the movie, or if you're my cousin who lives in Chicago, GO BE AN EXTRA!!!
Divergent is a best-selling young adult novel that takes place in a future Chicago that has been divided into factions, each representing a virtue--Erudite (the intelligent), Candor (the honest), Amity (the peaceful), Abnegation (the selfless), and Dauntless (the brave). The novel follows heroine Beatrice "Tris" Prior as she switches factions, from Abnegation to Dauntless, and goes through a brutal process of initiation. From goodreads: "As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her."
This movie is gearing up to be the next big YA novel to movie blockbuster after the success of The Hunger Games, which followed the Twilight and Harry Potter juggernauts. I think Divergent has potential to be a huge hit, especially with the high production costs for the movie (reportedly 40 million), the exciting plot (Divergent the novel is all action), the romance (Divergent, in my opinion, is way more romantic than The Hunger Games), and the casting of a talented actress in the lead role. 21-year old Shailene Woodley is lauded for her turn as a suffering teenager in 2011's Best Picture Golden Globe The Descendants.

Now, let's see how well they've cast Beatrice Prior!!!
According to the novel and to Divergentfans.com, Tris is described as having blonde hair, blue-gray, wide and round eyes, a long thin nose, and a small frame. Do you think Shailene Woodley is casting gold? If not, who should have been cast?
Note to Reader: They're still screen testing for Divergent's male lead, Four, and the three hopefuls are Alex Pettyfer (I am Number Four), Lucas Till (X-men: First Class), and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse). Coincidentally, they're all 1990 babies.
According to Divergentfans, Four is described as having a "spare upper lip, full lower lip, deep-set dark blue eyes, long lashes, deep voice, more than six feet tall, muscular, scar on chin, short hair...tattoos, and four fears (heights, confinement, shooting a woman, his father's cruelty)."
My vote is for: Jeremy Irvine. He's 6'1. English. A good actor. Mostly unknown. Plus, I want him to date Shailene Woodley, cause that's what totally happens during filming for YA movies (See: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower).
Who would you like to see play Four?

I am looking forward to the movie, but I still think I'll like the book way better. Somehow I know it wont be the same as I imagined it but hopefully it will be a good movie.

Me too! I hope it's goood. Even if it's not though, I'll still watch it. Hahaha.
Delete"Divergent, in my opinion, is way more romantic than The Hunger Games". Agreed. When I first saw your pick for Four I thought he didn't look badass enough, but I looked up more pictures of him and he actually does look very Four-like.
ReplyDeleteAnd hm don't know how I feel about casting of Beatrice... the Shailene girl always seemed pretty boring to me, but then again, I haven't seen much of her stuff.
DeleteYeah, I totally picked a pansy, looking through trees, woodland-fairy picture instead of a more badass one. I saw the Descendants and she was...teenagery in that one, so we will see.
