Stacking the Shelves (1)

Button  owned/made by Wilde Heart Book Blogs
Stacking the Shelves is a meme created by Tynga Reviews in which bloggers post photos and information on what books they've purchased/received/borrowed during the week!

Bought:
1. Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake: I bought this at Barnes and Noble in San Diego this week. I've wanted to read it because A. I love horror and B. It has a boy narrator who's a ghost hunter! [Genre: YA horror]
2. Adaptation by Malinda Lo: I went to SCBWI-LA's Writer's Day over the weekend. The theme for this year's Writer's Day was Diversity, which includes racial diversity, diversity in sexual orientation, etc. Malinda Lo signed my copy! Also, I WON FIRST PLACE IN THE WRITER'S DAY CONTEST FOR YOUNG ADULT FICTION. WOOT! [Genre: YA Science Fiction]
3. Diverse Energies (Anthology) edited by Joe Monti w/ various authors including Malinda Lo, Cindy Pon, Paolo Bacigalupi, etc: I actually bought this book at Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego AFTER the conference because Malinda Lo said that my novel (the one which won the Writer's Day contest) sounded similar to what Cindy Pon was doing in her short story in this anthology. Plus, Mysterious Galaxy is awesome and my book is signed. [Genre: YA]
4. The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson: I bought this at Barnes and Noble in San Diego. It sounds awesome. Futuristic Brazil for the win! [Genre: YA Science Fiction]
Unicornus and books

So, my cousin is getting married this weekend and she asked me to look up excerpts from children's books that she could have read at the wedding. These were my brilliant finds.

1. I Like You by Sandol Stoddard Warburg
Excerpt: I like you because I don't know why but/ Everything that happens is nicer with you/ I can't remember when I didn't like you/ It must have been lonesome then
2.  A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton
Excerpt: I like this Dinosaur, thought the Lovely Other Dinosaur/ Although he is fierce he is also tender and funny/ He is also quite clever though I will not tell him this for now
3.  The House at Pooh Corner by A. A. Milne
Excerpt: “What do you like doing best in the world, Pooh?" "Well," said Pooh, "what I like best-" and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called. And then he thought that being with Christopher Robin was a very good thing to do, and having Piglet near was a very friendly thing to have; and so, when he had thought it all out, he said, "What I like best in the whole world is Me and Piglet going to see You, and You saying 'What about a little something?' and Me saying, 'Well, I shouldn't mind a little something, should you, Piglet,' and it being a hummy sort of day outside, and birds singing." "I like that too," said Christopher Robin, "but what I like doing best is Nothing.”
4. Your Personal Penguin by Sandra Boynton
Excerpt: I want to be your personal penguin/ I want to walk right by your side/ I want to be your personal penguin/ I want to travel with you far and wide

  1. I loved Anna Dressed in Blood, it was so funny and it had a great ending! I just started Girl of Nightmares and it's just as good as the first one.

    Happy reading :)

  2. I haven't read any of these, but I have heard great things about Anna Dressed in Blood.

And if you're still looking for children books excepts to use in weddings, I've heard people use The Velveteen Rabbit, the part where it talks about being real. We didn't use a book except in our wedding, but if we had, that's what I would have wanted to use.

  3. Nice book haul! I was intrigued by the cover of The Summer Prince, but read the synopsis and decided it really wasn't for me.
Congrats on winning the writing contest! That is awesome and quite an accomplishment!
